More efficient low-impact fishing
As fishers aim to increase returns without expanding effort or footprint, light-based attraction offers a smart, simple, and low-impact solution for modern pot fisheries.
Pot fisheries have traditionally struggled to match the catch efficiency of gear like gillnets due to their more localised attraction range and reliance on bait to draw fish into traps. Unlike gillnets, which passively entangle fish, pots depend on triggering foraging behaviour—typically through olfactory cues from bait.
Potlight
Across multiple fisheries, the addition of underwater lighting has been shown to dramatically increase catch rates. PotLight works by leveraging either by phototaxis (simple light attraction) or triggering a predatory cascade. For example, krill are strongly drawn to white light which draws in predators like cod that are stimulated by the movement of prey.
Unlike bait, pot lights have a 360-degree attraction radius, remains effective for as long as the battery lasts and doesn’t degrade like traditional bait. This gives pots a longer effective fishing window and allows them to compete with—and in some cases outperform—gillnets, while remaining selective and low-impact.

105mm x 40mm x22mm | 5.5mm attachment hole diameter
Proven with multiple species including: snow crab (Chionoecetes spp), cod (Gadus spp.) ; European spiny spider crab (Maja squinado); Cuttlefish (Sepia spp.); Scallops (Pecten spp.); Gurnards (Trigla spp.); Prawns (Penaeus spp.)
Rated to 500m depth. Durable polycarbonate housing with double-sealed waterproofing handles harsh commercial use.
Activates on water contact, no buttons or setup. Compact and easy to clip onto pots without affecting stacking or deployment.
At only 25g in water, PotLight doesn’t interfere with gear handling. It uses sealed alkaline batteries—safe for storage and deck operations.
